Dear Ted:

Would you please give me some examples of "go past" used in a figurative way?

Thank you.

Dear Paolo:

*** Perhaps "figurative" is the wrong word to use.  I meant it in the sense that
you actually, physically, do not pass a certain point.

EXAMPLES:

If Peyton Manning plays football next year, he will go past the age record for professional
players.

The U. S. debt has gone past the all-time historical record, including the years of war.

Mary received the highest results possible on the national test.  She went past all of her
classmates.
