Question what are the studio songs on three sides live?I don`t have the album yet,and was just wondering.thanx.
Answer Hello Jeff...
Well, this is a tricky question believe it or not!
There were two different versions released in the United States of this album. Both versions have the following tracks:
Turn It On Again
Dodo / Lurker
Abacab
Behind The Lines
Duchess
Me & Sarah Jane
Follow You Follow Me
Misunderstanding
In The Cage / The Cinema Show / The Colony of Slippermen (The Raven)
Afterglow
This is where things get bobbled up.
The original fourth side of the North American release, from Atlantic records, had the following tracks (all studio outtakes from Duke and Abacab):
Paperlate
You Might Recall
Me And Virgil
Evidence of Autumn
Open Door
The original European version, by Virgin, had these tracks (all live versions with Phil Collins singing on them):
One For The Vine
Fountain of Salmacis
IT / Watcher of the Skies (instrumental ending blending into the instrumental ending)
When Atlantic, the North American label for Genesis, originally issued Three Sides Live on CDs, it issued the original North American version of the album with the studio outtakes.
However, when Atlantic re-released the CDs remastered in 1994, along with most of the other albums before it, they released the European version with the extra live tracks.
These days, you'll find the later version with the extra live tracks long before finding the older release with the studio tracks. You will not find a version with both sets of tracks unfortunately.
I hope this makes sense.... They both have the same tracks up until what was the fourth side when it was originally released, and that's where both versions differed. Both versions have been released in North America, but the later version is usually what pops up in record stores with the extra live tracks instead of the studio tracks.
Hope this helps.. Let me know if you want any further clarification on things.
