Question
Hello Dianne:

I run a number of office "betting pools", most of which I keep the stats and standings on Excel spreadsheets. I would like to set up a web home page, where anytime any of the participants desire, they could go online to see the latest update. I guess I have 2 questions: First, can I upload Excel sheets? Second, to read it, the user must have a sililar version of Excel, could I put the sheet in a read-only text format that anyone could access? Thank You.

Answer
Hello Joe

Sorry for the delay - the question came through on Friday and I've been away all weekend!

The big problem with Excel sheets is they're impossible to update once they're uploaded - you would need to redo the whole lot every time your stats alter, which I assume would be frequently.  I put an Excel sheet on one of my websites, before I realised this, to show my family tree - it was great for composing the tree but now it's stuck there for all eternity, impossible to alter!

I personally would set the data out as a simple table, then all you would need to do is alter the data in the relevant data cells.  If you don't know how to do this, get back to me and I'll "talk" you through the process.

Best wishes
Dianne
