Question
"jawahar lal Nehru proudly proclaimed the dams as the temples of modern India." justify this statement.

Answer
Hi Nikhar,

Nehru viewed India as a backwards poor nation who could not sustain the needs of its own people.  A great nation yes but with out the power and strength to prove itself and thus reliant on other states such as the UK.  Thus, he saw that India needed to be power independant, much the way Bapu saw the need for the people to make salt, grow crops and have electicity etc... The dams provided this power to grow India.
