Hallo Malcolm
The images are mirrored digitally, not an effect made by the camera unless such a special function is incorporated. It seems to be artwork made by a practical joker? If I knew what camera type and which airline, how far into the flight etc., I could identify the exact geographical location. my guess is that you flew "Emirates" and that the river is the Euphrates (explained the overexposure due to desert glare) or Danube. The town in in image seems to be a major city like Nasiriyah in Iraq.

Image 2 seams to be part of image 1.
