Question
Dear Ralph

Is there a possibility of Rain occuring in other 8 planets?

Thanks
Prashant

Answer
Hi Prashant,

In our solar system we only know that water rain falls on Earth.  Mercury does not have an atmosphere so it does not rain there.  Venus has a very thick atmosphere and it is very hot but it is possible that it rains.  Is it water rain, possibly but more likely a kind of hydrocarbon rain.  We don't know.

Mars has a very thin atmosphere and it is much colder than Earth.  It could snow there as there is evidence of frozen water but this is not known for sure.  The other planets are very cold so it can not water rain.  There is speculation that there could be methane rain, ammonia rain or other types of "rain" but this is unknown.  But clouds in the atmosphere would seem to imply that they do have some type of percipitation.
