Question
Do you know what the vernal eqinox in Johannesburg is, and why it occurrs then?

Answer
Emily:

Should you be contemplating a trip to the Southern Hemisphere, you have already missed this event.  Plan on next year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vernal_equinox is an excellent site regarding this subject.  I DO recommend that you follow the external links, and many of the highlighted information in the article.

Essentially, the equinoxes occur simultaneously in bot hemispheres.  Thus, in the north, you have the AUTUMNAL version as we are passing from Summer TO WINTER via Fall, and the turning of the leaves in many parts.  In the South, the season is the beginning of equal daylight in the SPRING.

The important aspect to remember is, YOUR planetary location,at a SPECIFIC point in TIME.  What season you are experiencing at that time is the opposite, anti-hemisphere.
