Expert: Dr D.Venkat Reddy - 10/10/2009

Question
Hi,

I read that waterfall is formed because of rivers flowing over the mountain rocks. How are rivers exactly formed? Does the clouds condense and form the river over the mountains?. why are the waterfalls occur only in specific spots in a mountains? why are some waterfalls are seasonal and others are perennial?

Regards,
Moosa

Answer
AMEENA
Kindly read geological work of rivers from any phyical geology book
Snowfed rivers like Ganges is perennial
Monsoon fed rivers like Godavari-Krishna are seasonal
Rainfall rresultef for flow -run-off water-all rinoff joind together from riverlets in mountains
-flow downwards-meet them from rivers
Water gushinh -in hilly areas-do headward -cutting -result to form water falls
