About Farrukh Qayyum
Expertise
I can answer questions related to following disciplines mainly: geology, geophysics, general geomorphology, stratigraphy, seismic stratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy. I would like to answer Geophysical question too with keen interest specifically exploration related. I want to hear from users for their queries on exploration geophysics/geology. Especially, in the discipline of Reservoir Characterization from multi-discipline data. The questions related to basics and interpretational applications would be most welcome. I can not answer the questions related to astronomly, ecology/environmetal sciences, mineralogy and petrology/petrophysics. Such categories are not my discipline of experience.

Experience
Four years in different services with additional case studies of Pakistan, China, Saudi Arabia and Netherlands offshore.

Organizations
dGB Earth Sciences, The Netherlands.

Education/Credentials
Master in Philosophy with specialization in reservoir characterization by using Sequence Stratigraphy. And master in Geophysics with a case study of Punjab Platform.

Awards and Honors
Position Holder in Academics.

Question
Dear sir I wish u could tell me that how the migration pathways of hydrocarbons can be evaluated. and using which software the hydrocarbons flow lines can be found. furthermore would tell me some references

Answer
Hello Rizwan,

This is a category of Basin Modeling. Broadly speaking, it is a fluid flow modeling within a limited interpreted model (e.g. seismic interpretated horizons). The organic contents, basin parameters, fluid, etc are calculated and evaluated first before generating a final model. Thus, the evaluation of migration and charge is a based upon the basin-rock parameters. The information is mainly collected from the drilling histories. PetroMod, ZetaWare are the softwares that are used widely. I think Becip Inc. also has the similar tools. But, these softwares are for the Commercial use. I don't think so that you can get it for academic purposes too. But, PetroMod-1D Express is freeware. You can use it for 1D-basin Modeling.

Try to Google followings:
Burial Graphs, 1D-basin modeling, 2D-basin Modeling, 3D-basin Modeling, Hydrocarbon Migration paths

Best Regards,

Farrukh
