Question
What is Dimensional Stone?
Give me 2 examples

Answer
The term Dimensional stone is generally used for all kinds of natural stones that are used for the construction and decorative purposes. In recent days, about 60% of hard crystalline rocks are being considered as Dimensional stones in India, owing to their hardness and attractive colours after cutting and polishing.

Any rock that naturally occurs, which can be cut and shaped in to specific size falls in to the category of Dimensional stones. In commercial parlance the Dimensional stones are also called as “Granite” to all types of rocks irrespective of their composition and origin whether those are true granites, dolerites, gabbros, marbles or sandstones. Hence the term granite is loosely applied to all rocks and does not necessarily be true granite as it does not correspond in all respects to the petrographical definition;  and more over these dimensional stones are identified by its permanent natural colours like black, green, red and multi colour but not classified on the basis of their composition of the minerals or by any particular mineral as in the case of geological nomenclature., as a result several names like black granite, galaxy granite, blue granite etc. have come in to vogue based on their color and the aesthetic look.
