Question
Sir i am fresh graduate in geology with keen interested in engineering geology . sir my question is that what important considerations are studied before Dam construction being geotechnical  geologist at site? sir very thankful for answering

Answer
Between identification of a Dam Site  and construction there is a long chain of geological-geotechnical investigations consisting of :

(1) Identification stage
(2) PFR Stage
(3) FR Stage and
(4) DPR Stage
(5) Construction Stage
(6) Post-Construction Stage ( basically operation & monitoring)

The idea remains  to help selecting  best option in terms of site, layout, safe  and economic design; also minimum geological surprises during the construction stage.
Remember, little investment with respect to project cost during the above investigations is reaped as good dividends in terms of reduction in time & cost overruns during construction and post construction stages.
