I recently found a rock in north central Tennessee. It appears to be igneous; glassy and smooth to touch. Predominant color is bluish slate with bands of cream colored veins with pale blue bands mixed in.

I would like to be able to identify this rock. I have attached 2 photos.

I hope you can help me.

Answer
Dear Jack
It seems to be variety of quartz-
Remove weathered portion and scratch with knife-if it may not scartch -it may be mineral of quartz-Note any cleavage planes or partings on it-Generally quartz minerals will not show
