Geology/depositional environment

sir what are the environment of depostion of tobra formation ?i am little confused with literature .please help

Dear Muhammad Musa,

The age of Tobra Formation is Early Permian overlying unconformably on Early Cambrian and found in Punjab Platform and Potwar basin area in outcrops and wells. Based on the lithological studies of the rocks of Tobra is comprised of boulder beds, sandstone, clay, marl, and fossiliferous limestone. The basal unit is composed of tillite with polished and striated pebbles, providing evidence of Late Carboniferous-Early Permian glaciation whereas the rocks units above Tobra is of marine origin with rich fauna which include bivalves, foraminifera, brachiopods and ammonoids.

Therefore, it is generally believed that due to glaciation effect in the southern plate of Gondwanaland Tobra or Talchir beds have deposited. Tobra or Talchir beds is widely exposed and present in India, Pakistan, Arabian Peninsula, South Africa, Australia and South America. Almost all the southern continents which were part of the single plate Gondwanaland before its breakup.

Hope this may help.

Rating would be appreciated.
