AboutKelly Expertise I can answer most questions involving Syrian hamsters - mainly housing and general care. I can also tell you what to look for when you are buying a hamster for the first time. I can answer a few questions about gerbils, mainly housing. I can also answer a few questions about dwarf hamsters and mice - again, mainly housing and general care.
Experience I have had several hamsters, both Campbell's dwarf and Syrian. I have also had a mouse who lived to be almost 4 years old! (A regular white mouse named, creatively, "Mousie.") Currently, I have 1 Syrian hamster, 1 Siberian Dwarf hamster, and 2 gerbils. I have spent countless hours researching these small animals from reliable websites (which I can recommend to you). I strongly believe in being *very* prepared before I get an animal.
Question hi again! :)
i was wondering, i dont use bleach every week to clean the cage.In the past though, i have used bleach if my hamster or gerbil dies. I've never had a problem, but do u think i should stop using bleach ever and use pet disinfectant?? and of course when i have used the bleach i washed the cage with soap and water like ten times. thanks if you can help, jen
Answer Hi Jen,
Yes, using bleach to disenfect the cage after an animal has passed away is fine (especially since you're washing the cage frequently and thoroughly after you've rinsed the bleach). I'm very glad you are, in fact, because bleach does a great job at ridding the cage of any germs or diseases that might be lurking.
You can use pet disenfectant as well, of course. It would actually save you time, as opposed to using bleach, since you wouldn't have to wash the cage afterwards (more than once anyway).
Have a great weekend, and if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask :)
