I can answer questions on Hamsters but not gerbils. i know a lot about general hamster care(buying, feeding, housing etc etc)plus, breeding (mating, caring for a pregnant hamster, babies etc etc) and a bit about hamster health. Need to know something else? if i don`t know the answer i`m sure i can find out for you!

Question
i was wondering if you knew any ways i can tell if my Dwarf hamsters are mating cuz i keep 3 boys(i think they are boys)in the same cage an 2 of then are aways together and they act weird with each other, At first i thought that they were always together and ignoring (mostly) the runt cuz he was the runt but now i  am not sure

thanks i hope you can help

Answer
hello,
I have a feeling dwarf hamsters are best kept in pairs, becuase three is an odd number anyways, that could be one reason they are leaving the little one out!
How do you mean by acting weird? if your hamsters are mating, chances are after the female is pregnant she will reject the male, probably banish him from the nests, so if the hamsters are still being friendly together, then chances are maybe they are just good friends.
Generally male hamsters have their testicles hanging out, but if you're not sure,to find out the sex of your hamster, you'll have to check down below, i found a website, which gives you some info on that  http://www.angelfire.com/sys/popup_source.shtml?search_string=dwarf+hamsters
becuase it'll be hard for me to explain, and it know its hard to do, but that site gives a simple explanation.
hmm i think thats about all i can tell you, if you write back with more information i may be able to help more,  but never actually having that type of hamster makes this difficult!
another good site is www.hamsters.co.uk that might help if i am no good!
i hope i have been of some use!
