I have the same problem with one of my gerbils - same time too.  I used boric acid dissolved in hot water compresses 3-4 times daily.

My gerbil is much better after two days of this treatment.

You could probably use warm salt water compresses too.  I used cotton pads.

I've owned a lot of hamsters and have loads of experience as far as care, taming and feeding is concerned. I have some knowledge on babies and breeding.
