Question QUESTION: Hi
I am in 53.
I have always been curious about how some celebrities manage to stay so young(looking) and vital even in their 'old age'.
Sur they have plastic surgery, but what else do they do?
I have just partialy retired, which mean I now have more time for myself,to exercise, eat properly, etc.
Could you could give me a few pointers on things I could do,supplements to take?
p.s. I dont smoke and recently stopped drinking. No health issues. Thanks!
ANSWER: Hi Susan and thanks for writing,
Do you have any specific health concerns you'd like to address (fatigue, bad complexion, weight, aches & pains, etc) or are you just looking to boost your general health?
Thanks,
Margot

QUESTION: Yes
I find it increasingly difficult to keep weight off even though I am active and a light eater.
Also,just general energy,mental health,warding off disease,etc.Thanks.
Answer Hi again Susan,
There are no great secrets to good health that I am aware of, just the usual "eat sensibly, exercise regularly and get adequate sleep".
I would advise you do review your eating habits and see where you can improve - obviously we want to avoid refined sugars and processed foods as much as possible and eat less carbs. The trick to eating healthy is to eat five small meals a day from early morning to a few hours before you turn in and always eat as much FRESH FOOD as possible. Also try to drink 6-8 glasses of water each day, you will really feel the difference quickly, but the trick is to keep it going once the novelty of feeling better wears off.
As for supplements I would simply advise a simple daily MultiVitamin and MutliMineral to cover the basics. There are several designed for women over 50 that are quite good. Vitamin D is excellent for those of us who live in the north and don't get much natural sun in the winter months. Coenzyme Q10 is an excellent Antioxidant and Cold Fx boosts our immune system to help fight winter colds and flus.
As for exercise I would recommend a mixture of Yoga and Pilates - both work on Core Strength and compliment each other well - Yoga focuses more on mental strength and Pilates helps with general strength and flexibility (and both make you FEEL GREAT which is why so many stars do them both - Madonna got her figure through Pilates).
Well I hope this helps and I do wish you all the best. Remember it's always better to make gradual changes and think about lifestyle adjustments and forget silly dieting!
