Question I am serving a typical meal from my German side of the family-Roast Pork with Saeurkraut. Potatoes will be the other vegetable. What would be typical to go with these. I esp. want a green vegetable. Maybe a salad? Dinner is tonight at 5:00 and I just found your website. Help!
Of course-beer!
Answer Pam, a salad might be in competition with your sauerkraut. Simply made lightly cooked green beans with a little onion sauteed in butter or perhaps glazed carrots would be a fine addition in flavor and color.
Glasierte Karroten (Glazed carrots)
1 1/2 pounds fresh carrots
2 tablespoons sugar
dash salt
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 tablespoon parsley
1 tablespoon chopped dill (optional)
2/3 cup water
dash pepper
In a pot, brown the sugar until light golden. Add cleaned and sliced carrots (or whole baby carrots). In a saucepan, bring water to a boil and blend into the carrots. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Blend in butter or margarine. Cover and cook over medium heat for 20-30 minutes or until carrots are tender. Sprinkle with finely chopped herbs. If desired, add 1/2 finely chopped onion.
