Learned a variety of German wonderments in my mothers and Aunts and finally my mother-in-laws kitchen. Made my first spatzle at age 10. Have a recipe for making Baumkkuchen at home. -There are recipes in my personal files from the first course to the last. My library is considerable!

Question
Hi !
My husband's birthday is coming up.  He is of German descent and he said all he wanted for his birthday dinner was  grilled sausages (Bratwurst, etc).  Could you suggest a menu with German sausages as the main course?  We will be having about 12 people.

thanks in advance for your help
Irma

Answer
Irma, a little pickled herring or deviled eggs(Russische Eier) or a small  cup of consomme to start with.  any number of potato dishes, home fries with onions, potato pancakes with a little applesauce on the side or a hot German potato salad. German red cabbage, sauerkraut ,old fashioned Cole slaw or a simple salad with vinegar oil dressing would go well. Assuming there will be the traditional Birthday Cake, so.. Good cooking and a Happy Birthday to your husband.
