Question
I am hoping that you can give me a general idea of how to divorce a German citizen, I am a us citizen and i am unsure of where to start. do i need to file state side as well as in Germany?  what is the process and how long dose it tend to take?
any information would be great. thank you so much.

You need a divorce jdgement renderred by a court.

As there is a German citizen is invloved a divorce suit could be filed in Germany. I do ot know where you live. If you live in germany the court would apply German law. This requires that the spouses have been separated for a year at leat before any divorce suit can be initiated.

If you can also file such law suit in the US is a matter of American law which I do not know.  

However, you only need to file a law suit in one of the two jurisdictions who will apply their (international) divorce law to the case.

The length of the proceeding is different in each individual case.
