German Law - US citizen has child with German citizen
Expert: Henning Haarhaus - 11/2/2009
Question I'm a US citizen and have had a child with a German citizen, we are not married. Does being the father of an German citizen allow me EU residency, or do we need to get married?
Answer I assume that the child was born and lives in Germany. In the event that you accepted your paternity with the consent of the mother and you both declared joint custody (both by filing respective declaratioons at the child welfare office) and live together with your child you would be entitled a residence permit.
