German Law/german tax

The German tax office are applying an attachment of earnings where they deduct the majority of salary before it is paid to the employee. Is there any way to get them to take less money?

German tax authorities collect wage taxes from the employers which serve as a prepayment on the income tax burden of the employees. Thus, the employer has to check if the wage taxation (Lohnsteuer) is handled correctly and he pays out to the employee only the net salary. The employee can file an income tax return in order to receive a correct and individual tax assessment. Whether the employee can claim back some of the withheld taxes or has to effect an additional subsequent payment depends on each individual case.
