Question
Hello! Firstly, I'd like to thank you for pledging your time for us silly tourists, and have a couple of questions to ask.

Have you heard of the Love Parade? My boyfriend and I will be flying there to Dortmund to be part of this spectacular event. We will be part of the "Free Hugs" project. Please tell me how you write and say "Free Hugs" in German?
Also, for a young couple that loves life, what sort of things are fun to do to experience all that Germany has to offer?

Again, thank you for all that you do,

Niki and Brian

Answer
Dear Nicole,
thank you for your question.
Free Hugs can be translated with Gratis-Umarmung. Umarmung is hug and gratis means free. I've never heard of that project before, it's a great idea :)
Since Dortmund is part of the Ruhrgebiet, there are several other cities that you can reach easily, for example Bochum, Essen, Duesseldorf or Cologne and you will have all sorts of activities to choose from. Since I don't know what you like best, I've looked up the official homepages for those cities, that should give you a good outline of what you can do:

http://www.koeln.de/en/index.html

http://www.duesseldorf.de/en/index.shtml

The Wikitravel also has useful information and links on most of the cities:

I hope I was of some help to you, have a lot of fun :)
Jennifer
