Question
Hello
I would like to know about the Newschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. I want to visit it. Can you tell me the best day, time and season to visit it.
Is it really Snow Whites castle?

Answer
Neuschwanstein Castle
Neuschwanstein Castle
Hallo,

Neuschwanstein was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. They call him the "fairy tale" King for his fancy dreams and ideas. It was built 1869-1884 and the King never really lived in it, he died two years of it was furnished. Snow White is a fairy story written by the Brothers Grimm in 1812 and is thought to be based on the story about Maria Sophia Margaretha Catherina von Erthal and Prince Elector of Mainz near what is now near Frankfurt on Main, about 500 km from where Neuschwanstein was built much later.

The castle can be reached easily as a day-trip from Munich by bus or train. It is open every day of the year except Christmas Day and New Years Day. It is pretty both in winter and in summer so some people visit it twice.

In 2007 it narrowly missed being voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the world
