Global Investing - Foreign Investing

Expert: Alexander J. Hay - 10/19/2009

Question
I am trying to arrange my portfolio to ensure that it hedges against a falling dollar / high inflation.  Does owning stock in large U.S. companies that have a large international presence (e.g., MCD or KO) accomplish my goal as adequately as owning foreign-owned companies such as PTNR, or index funds such as EFA? Thank you in advance for your response.

Answer
I know many people believe this, and I suppose it is correct. As the dollar collapses large US companies that have a large part of their business outside the USA will do better, at least in dollar terms. But a foreign company will do better on everything.  I like both types of companies myself.
