Currently investments in real estate index mutual funds (e.g. Vanguard REIT Index) are recommended as part of portfolio for diversification. However, these indices mostly follow real estate in U.S., which as I believe is generally overpriced now. There are emerging regions (e.g. China, Eastern Europe) where real estate investments IMHO have better perspectives, though more risk. Are there reliable ways to invest money in "regional" real estate? Are there any indices which follow regional RE?

Answer Not that I know of. Generally you just either have to invest in real property on your own, or through regional investment projects that are usually high risk. An example is the fund that I manage in Belize: www.belizegrowth.com
This fund is not regulated, and is quite risky by most people's standards. But it might be easier and safer than investing a lot or two on your own.
