Question QUESTION: Well, she is still alive. She is still very very weak, can't even sit up now. Gave her B complex injections & safeguard (no Valbazen at the farm store). She will eat if I put the food (hay & leaves) in her mouth as long as they are broken up in little pieces. Her breathing is faster than yesterday.
What about C & D Anitoxin. Do you think I should give her any of that? I feel like I am only prolonging her death but also feel I need to try to save her.
If she makes it, should I deworm again in 10 days? If so, which should I go with .....Ivomec + or Valbazen?
Thanks
ANSWER: HI Shellie,
Did you begin the cocci treatment? What is her temp? Yes on the CD Antitoxin, it cannot hurt if she doesn't need it but if she does it will help. Either on the re-deworming in 10 days- the cocci treatment is important though..
Fluids- anything with sugar that she will drink on her own or you will have to drench her- she needs to stay hydrated. Electrolytes are best but add molasses or karo syrup in it for energy and blood sugar .
I have even added soda pop for ones who refused anything else.
And - were you able to get the Tyaln200? if not is she on antibiotics? She needs to be. Let me know how she does- Id try as long as she is wanting to try.

QUESTION: Yes, to the Cocci treatment - had her 2nd dose today. How much & how often on the fluids. I have been giving her all she will take on her own & adding both molasses or karo to it (switching them back & forth). Will check her temp again tonight. Figured the shot wouldn't hurt anything. No Tyaln 200 but gave her an shot of oxytet today. 1cc do you think I should do another cc & 1 cc a day for how long?
ANSWER: HI Shellie,
Good on the cocci treatment and yes on the antibiotic 5-7 days for that. Good on the water with electrolytes and karo/molasses in it - do this as long as she is not feeling well- sure wont hurt. She can have as much of the fluids as she wants. We have some big storms coming in tonight so if I don't get right back to you if you post to me again this is why- we just had an alert across the tv screen. I lose satellite in storms. I hope she pulls out of this.. will be thinking of you and her..

QUESTION: Good news tonight, we have goat berries !!! She is eating grassy alfalfa hay on her own as long as I put it in front of her, had a small leaf of lettuce - doesn't really care for the leaves. Still too weak to sit up or hold head up on her own but is drinking much better tonight. I keep switching which side she is laying on. Eyes are open more tonight & she seems to follow my movements.
Seems to bleat in pain every now & then though. Any thoughts on that?
Her name is Tinkerbell but may change that to Amazing Grace if she pulls through this. I am carefully watching the rest of the goats.
Shellie
Answer Hi Shellie,
That is great news! I have a goat named Tinkerbelle and she is a royal PIA ;)
Nutrition now .. plenty of it - she needs her rumen to work (is she chewing cud?) probiotic paste or yogurt with live bacteria in it (should say on the label of the yogurt if it does, I think all of them do now- and any flavor) About a cup a day to rebuild the bacteria in the gut so she can digest her food and chew cud. All water should have electrolytes in it- if no electrolytes, put some karo syrup or molasses and a tsp of salt warm water- a full grown adult dairy goat should drink a gallon of water a day- so figure it accordingly to her size.
She should still be getting the cocci treatment- If you can get some nutri-drench or redcell into her that is perfect- or lixotinic- they are all full of vitamins and minerals to help her rebuild -
The bleating- I cannot hear it .. but I will tell you now, a certain sound and once you hear it you will never forget it- a sort of hollow different talk- is what I call the death cry.. not trying to upset you .. but trying to prepare you just in case- :(
They all do it and it is difficult to bring a goat out of the illness they are in once this begins. Like I said, I cannot hear it - but it is different and almost eery
Keep giving her things to keep her appetite up- Also check her rectal temp a few times a day- if it stable and 101.3 to 103.5 great - if it starts to fall below 100 and continues to fall- again prepare yourself.
Praying here for you and Tink..
