Question Hi it is me again, sorry to keep bothering you but I'm Stumped. Rufus has a white blood count of 65,000 Liver enzymes are off the chart. The Vet say it is leukemia or liver cancer. Michele Konnerman is a vet that I e-mail she seems to think it maybe liver flukes or a liver infection. She has me giving penicillin and trimethprin and worming him with Valbazen. Today I go to the barn and Mr. Rufus has bottle jaw, he is back to eating and his diarrhea is stopping very emaciated but feeling better. His fecal's along with the other three goats came back totally clean no worm eggs at all.. Do you please have any idea's on this matter. I can't believe that he has been hanging on and fighting this so hard, this has been coming and going since early January, I'm so worn out over this illness and Rufus just keeps fighting, OH WHAT A WILL TO LIVE!!!! Thanks for any thoughts you may have.
Answer Hi Glenda,
I'm so sorry, he is truly a fighter isn't he?
Ivomec Plus injected SUbQ 1cc/30lbs for a severely anemic goat- make sure it is the PLUS as it has the medication for the liver fluke-
Did you ever have him tested for Johnes? (just a long shot here)
Copper deficiency,
Coccidiosis,
Bracken fern poisoning,
Inadequate protein synthesis due to liver damage,
Mycotoxins (a toxin produced by an organism of the fungus family, which includes mushrooms, molds and yeasts.)
Stomach worms especially Barberpole worm (Haemonchus contortus ),
Johnes Disease
and Liver Fluke all can cause bottle jaw in the goat-
Keep me updated and give Rufus a big kiss for me.
Hugs! goatlady
