Goats - Is my Female Goat ready?
Expert: Goatlady - 10/31/2009
Question Hi I have a 6 month Female Goat but I was wondering when can she have sex with a male Goat so she can have her Babies and how many can a Female Goat have?
Answer *HI Joel,
Female goats "can" get pregnant as young as 3 months of age but it is always best to allow the doe (female goat) to fully develop before you ask her to use her energy to make a baby .. typically the ideal age for breeding is 18 months old so she kids at about 2 yrs old. - NO less than a year old making her 18 months old when she kids (approx) - gestation (length of pregnancy) is approximately 5 months. A doe (female goat) can have as many as 5 kids and some have only one. Much depends on the breed of goat- Nigerian Dwarf Dairy goats often have quads, while often angora goats have a single kid. The most common is twins, next is single kids and then triplets. Quads and Quintuplets are not the norm excepting in certain breeds.
I have some good articles on breeding and kidding on my website..
