Goats - coughing herd
Expert: Cheryl K. Smith - 11/3/2009
Question Hi I just recently purched a small herd of reg pygmy goats when I got them a few had runny noses. It was clear so I wasn't too concerned but now 2 days later I went out to feed and one does nose was covered with yellow snot i gave her tylan 200 also B 12 and probis she died later that nightand in two days I've lost two more. Now I'm scared all the goats are coughing with a little bit of a runny nose I'm worried ill lose all of them. I figured it was pneumonia or shipping fever. And treated the sick animals according and still lost them they were ok and two days later dead. Now the rest of the herd is coughing if they run also most of them had runny noses it was clear but the others started that way as well is there anything I can put in the water to help them. Or to keep them from getting worse.
Answer That's pretty horrible. I am sorry to hear about them. You need to contact a vet and get another antibiotic, such as Naxcel, which may work better. I would even contact the seller and find out whether this is an ongoing problem with her goats. It wasn't really fair to sell sick goats.
