Goats/Large udder

Question
Years ago I saw a doe with a udder that was so large that it all but drug on the ground and had to have been 2 to 2and half feet across, the poor thing could not  walk just tack half inch steps, what could of made her udder so oversized as this?a

Answer
When there is lack of fore and rear udder attachments as well as the medial suspensory ligament being very lax/not strong an udder can expand to be dragging and oversized as it is not kept in shape by the attachments and ligaments of the udder.  Also, overuse/overmilking can cause strain on the ligaments and make them break down sooner than they should. Hope this helps - Donna
