Golden Retrievers - Skin Problem

Expert: Marie Peppers/ NuVet Dog Vitamins / Pet tabs ** - 11/12/2008

Question
My golden is 18 months, and has had a skin condition since we got him at 8 weeks. He has flakes of skin on his back and near his tail. Looks like a hot spot is developing. The vet gave him a shot for the scratching, and it did help. Food allergy was ruled out, but since the shot, the skin flakes seem to be more numerous. We are feeding him IAMS LARGE BREED PUPPY, a switch from Nutro Ultra. The scratching is almost non existant, but the skin is dry and flaky. We also give him a supplement for the skin and coat called 3V Caps twice daily. No fleas at this time, what next ? Use a dandruff shampoo ?

Answer
Hi Joyce - Well, the shots work well if you get them ever 30 days .... Expensive ..
Oh, the 3V caps are very good, keep taking them.
I would add a few things to your kids diet.
First off - How about some Salmon oil - Pure salmon oil - just 1 tablespoon per day - mixed into his food.
( you can find this at most pet stores)

Next, I would get some Tea Tree Oil Shampoo - I will give you a link to NuVET Products/ they have a wonderful Tea Tree oil for skin like you mentioned...I believe it is about 9.95 per bottle.  Lasts a good long time and you would bath him only 2 x per month with the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo -

Also, I would love for your kid to get onto the NuVET Plus Wafer program - Just 1 wafer treat per day ( only .60 cents) will help the skin and coat to heal ... Also, get rid of the dandruff for good.
This is an immune system booster and helps so much with stiff legs and joints, too.
here is the link for NuVET -
Also, the shampoo Link too..***************
Please write down My name as your Pet Nutritionist/ Marie Peppers

I sure hope you decide to try the NuVET Products.  Please let me know how your golden kid does... I would love an update in 30 days or less.
Also, NuVET has a hot spot spray - if you would like to try that on any " upset " areas.... red areas???
Stop a hot spot in it's tracks!
