Question
Hi i was recently hitting the ball really well.

The ball whistled in flight and the divot was dollar bill sized pointing slightly to the right.

At the impact area i had a feeling of having alot of power running through my arms, legs and club.

To achieve this at the range i tried to relax and my eyes were almost closed at impact instead of hitting at the ball.

I was asking if you have any thoughts or ideas on how to not focus on the ball and hit through smoothly?

Thanks

Answer
Ryan,

I do have some ideas on this concept. I believe focusing on the ball is the worst thing a golfer can do. First of all in this great game why focus on something (the ball) when you know it's not moving until you hit it. I also feel that you should concentrate on something important that you can control. I feel that a balanced golf swing is vital to a consistent golf swing. Try to focus on a good balanced finish. If you do this and don't focus on hitting the ball you'll do very well.

Funny you mentioned about having your eyes almost closed at impact and making good contact. When I get a student that is clearly ball bound, I'll have the student hit five balls with their eyes closed. This relaxes their body and surprisingly they hit the ball quite well.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you,

Michael Hoffman
