I'm a 10 handicapper, age 65. I hit a 7 iron 150 yds and play Mizuno MX25's with True Temper GoldLight R300 shafts. I would like to buy new irons (Mizuno 52's) and am considering the Rifle or Project X shafts in a 5.0 or 5.5 rating. Do you think that these shatfs would be appropriate for me or would they be too heavy?
Thank you,
Rudy
Answer Rudy,
I don't have nearly the information that I need to give an opinion about whether those shafts would be too heavy for you. If you've read any of my new club answers you'll know that I am a proponent of hitting the club before placing an order.
See if there are any demo days (Mizuno) in your area in the upcoming future. This way, if they have the club head you like they also may have shaft variations as well. Try the different variations and see which one feels the best.
Worst case scenario if the above doesn't work out, you can always just order the 7 iron with the shaft you prefer and if you like it order the rest of the set. Be sure to get fitted by a professional before you place the order.
