Golf - Iron head weight

Expert: Chuck Evans - 10/1/2006

Question
Do mens and womens iron heads have the same approximate weight ?

I have a chance to make a good buy on a 50* wedge but it has a ladies shaft and grip so i was planning on just changing shafts and grip. Would this work ?

Thanks, John

Answer
John,

Yes ladies and men's clubhead do weight differently.  Ladies weigh less and therefore if you put a men's shaft into it the head will be too light.  I would weigh the men's wedge and after re-shafting weight the "new" club.  Add lead tape to the back to bring it up to weight.
