Question
QUESTION: I am a 15 year old freshman in highschool. I live in Saratoga Wyoming. I am a 7
handicapper and currently took 1st at state golf. I am very ;interested in being a
professional golfer. I golfed my best ever at state a 69-68. Anyway here is my
Question can anyone enter the Qschool. Or does it have to be certain people
thanks for your time.

ANSWER: Hello Robby:  Congratulations on your accomplishment and fine play!!  As I understand it, the Q-School can be entered by anyone.  Because the process has begun this year, I could not find any information that explains how it works or an application to enter.  I have the following link which may answer some of your questions and allow you to follow the progress of this year's school.

As for the Q-School itself, sometime after the first of every year, you can visit www.pgatour.com and click on the link to tournaments.  At the end of the list, tour school dates will be listed.  Clicking on the tournament should take you to the pages providing information as to entry, etc.

Good luck with your goal Robby.  It's a wonderful way to spend your life.

Fairways and Greens,

John

QUESTION: First of all thank u for the info I found some good info on the site. Then i
have one more question. Lately i have been hitting my irons solid and
straight. They have been savin pars on bad drives, and my short game has
been saving a lot of pars too. Like today I shot a 69 if it wasn't for my irons
and short game I would of shot a 80 or more probably. I hit a drive about 260
on average. But I always seem to hit it barely on the rough but i always
manage to go right barely and on my course any rough means trees and trees
mean bad but I manage to par or get rare birdies as my course is a par 70. I
feel like if i could fix that I could shoot much better its not a slice it just starts
out barely right and stays right as my woods are straight and my irons are a
draw. for now I wil use a hybrid cause that is something that goes where I
want like my irons. any info would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Robby:  Before answering this question, if there are any tour events close by, contact the PGA through their website and ask about local qualifying.  That would be a good way to get a taste of the tour without sacrificing your amateur status until you choose to turn pro.

The fact you seem to be consistent in your missed drives, I would suspect it's either an alignment or ball position issue.  As for alignment, the line across the tips of your toes should be parallel to your target line.  Next time you play, on a hole you use your driver, get set to hit the shot and place your driver across the front of your toes.  Place another club next to the ball and make it parallel to the other.  That will show you where the ball will likely go.

If that proves to be on target, then check your ball position. Get ready to hit the shot again and place a club along your toes.  Lay your driver so it crosses the one along your toes at right angles.  The grip should be close to touching your front heel.  If not, you should adjust the ball position so that it does.

Check those two things first and if either doesn't correct the problem, we'll try a couple other possibilities.
