US Government Information - Refund for Notch Babies

Expert: Darlene Oldendick - 9/27/2009

Question
My mom lives in Illinois, she's 86 and just told me that she received mailings from Gutteiriz (sp?) about getting a refund as a notch baby.  She was asked to donate $5, which she did, she answered questions and returned it to Mr. Gutieriz.  She hopes  to get a lump sum refund.  I'm worried that she has fallen prey to a scam.  Can you tell me if there's a legitimate effort to restore the funds to this segment of our population?  All seniors now, they certainly could use it.  But I'm worried she's become a victim.  Thanks for your quick response.  Lynell Fox

Answer
I believe this to be a scam.  You may want to report it to the Office of Inspector General
