Question I was reading the question from Carl about his wife's right to draw some of his ss under the spousal benefits. I did not know this existed. I retired at 62. My husband took his benefits at 65. So I would be able to get a portion of his benefits besides my own? It would certainly help. Tell me if I am correct in the way I am interpreting your response.
Thank you,
Patricia
Answer If your husband retired after you at age 65, SS should have looked to see if you as his spouse could collect additional benefits on his record. Your full age retirement benefit must be less than 1/2 of his full retirement age amount in order for spouse's benefit to be payable. If is very possible SS missed this. If they did and you did not sign a statement that you did not want to file or your husband did not state on his application that you did not want to file, they owe you money.
