Question I don't know how to ask this nicely, but my daughter worked for a company for 4 months. These people frequently did not pay their bills, evaded their vendors and bill collectors, and had subsidiary companies with no assets. Nearly all of the employees are middle Eastern and they speak Arabic all the time, only speaking English when they have to do so. They are not members of the Better Business Bureau. They pay their taxes. Is there any government entity that might check to see if they are legitimate and not involved in activities that are counter to US interests?
Answer Sally,
Thank you so much for asking your question. I will start off by saying that I don't have expertise in your question's area. I do feel that it's a good thing your daughter is not working for the company anymore.
Traditionally the IRS and FBI would be the government organizations to research fraudulent companies. If they were operating illegally with their financial statements and/or taxes, the IRS would be the ones to investigate. If they were operating illegally with their hiring practices, etc....the FBI would be the ones to investigate.
Usually the IRS and FBI are very busy. I don't know whether they would immediately take on this case if you contacted them. It doesn't hurt to try though. The Better Business Bureau might be a good resource locally. I would contact your local chapter and ask them about the company. They might also have some contacts for you to utilize.
I will give you this word of caution though: If your daughter is no longer working for this company, I would leave them alone. If this company has illegal contacts and operations, you do NOT want to get involved. I would not even tip off the authorities about them. You would be better off just leaving them alone and not talking about them to anyone. You don't want to be the one responsible for their potential demise. That is just my opinion.
I hope this helped you out a bit. I have not encountered this type of problem before. I only told you what I would do. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Good luck and thanks again for writing. You can rate my level of service on this site as well.
