The United States Postal Service (USPS) is an independent establishment of the executive branch of the United States government (see 39 U.S.C. § 201) responsible for providing postal service in the U.S. Within the United States, it is colloquially referred to simply as "the post office."

USPS is not fedraly owned but federaly monitored, they have been self supporrted since 1982 they generate income from the sale of stamps and other products.  I am a 3rd party postal service employee I work for a call center on the USPS project have now for 1 1/2 years as to my knowledge that is the correct response.  As to my knowledge as well postal employees are concdiered federal employees I hope that was more information for you.
