Question
Is the USPS a part of the US government or is it a private entity?  Also to get a job there is it civil service?
I heard that it is associated with the Executive Branch but is not tax supported and can make a profit?

Answer
Christina,
Yes.  The USPS is a part of the federal government.  Employees of the USPS are civil servants.  You are also correct that they are unique in the federal government since they are a profit-generating organization.

I did a quick search of the Executive Branch and the USPS.  I did not see where it was a member of the Executive Branch.  I can research this later if you are still curious.  Unfortunately I have to catch a plane right now.  I wanted to get a response to you sooner than later.

I hope that this helped out.
Eric
