AboutBobbert Expertise I have been into computer hardware, especially 3D graphics and the hardware that drives them, for a number of years. I have knowledge in installation, use, troubleshooting, purchase suggestions and overclocking.
Question Is it a good idea to upgrade to the EVGA GTS 250 stock edition? What benefits will I get from upgrading from what I have to this? What can I safely overclock it to for more performance with the tool EVGA provides with it still being stable? Thanks for your time, I appreciate it.
Answer Do you have a need for more performance in a specific application? If not, I wouldn't really bother with the price of an upgrade. Furthermore, is your system compatable with the upgrade? Power supply? Cooling? Case size?
Regarding overclocks, nothing is guranteed, and generally I would not suggest an overclock if it can be avoided (for example, the GTS 250 is not the top of the line nVidia product, if you need performance beyond its ability, a GTX 260 may be a better choice). The performance gain from any current 2-- series nVidia board over a GeForce 8600 will be quite large, and I doubt an overclock will be required for acceptable performance levels. However, if you don't need additional performance for a given application, again, I would not bother with spending the money on an upgrade.
