Graphic Accelerators - choosing video card

Expert: Bobbert - 8/23/2009

Question
Hello

I am considering the Antec Sonata 3 computer cas.  However in the description of the video card that I want  - GTX 260 ,  it says MINIMUM of 500 watts here -

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130434

Minimum of a 500 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 36 Amp Amps.)
Two available 6-pin Molex hard drive power dongles

I am not playing much games, mostly,it is standard office tasks. Only in the weekend will play some games.   Is the Antec Sonata 3 with the built in PSU and very very quite operation that I like,  still a good choice for me?

Please explain and suggest.

Thank you,   Gabe

Answer
The included power supply appears to be an Antec EarthWatts 500W, this should be fine for the GTX 260, assuming the rest of your system isn't entirely over the top (less than four HDs, less than two optical drives, and a reasonable modern CPU).
