Graphic Design - Question On Quark

Expert: Sandia - 9/22/2004

Question
Hello.

I have a question regarding Quark. Yesterday at school, I was learning how to design an ad. I was copying an ad entitled, "Butcher Shop Deli" for practice. In one section I had to type in the word, "FREE" for the coupon design. It had the word FREE in red with a small space around the text, followed by a thin yellow outline of the text, and the shadow of the word FREE in red. To accomplish this, I duplicated the text box FREE and moved it behind the original text box to give it that shadowy effect. But once I did, it pushed the original text away. Yet, I know there is some way around this. Do you have any tips on how to achieve this?

regards,

Steven

Answer
Hi Steven,

Quark calls that 'runaround'. You're right; it can be modified. Here's how:

Right-click with your mouse on the text box. Select 'Modify'. Go to the Runaround tab, and change the type to 'None'.

Great decision to learn Quark. Best of luck to you. It is a fantastic program, as you may have already found out!
