AboutKen Humphries Expertise I have only four geat danes now, all fawn, although I have had brindles in the past. I have had them for 34 years and am an international judge of danes, I breed them occasionally and show them most weekends. I also organise seminars and lecture on Kennel Club regulations, how to judge dogs, canine anatomy, movement and stewarding at shows. I am on the committees of National Working & Pastoral Breeds, Midland & West of England Great Dane Club organising shows and I was chairman of Stratford Canine Society.
Experience I have had up to 20 great danes at any one time, fawn, brindle and blue,in the past. Question My family is thinking about getting a Great Dane puppy that is about 16 weeks old. we would like to know when do the get there ears done? How often do they get there vaccines, and about how much should we looking forward to spend on them? Please help us. Thanks
Answer You shouldn't get the ears cropped unless you intend showing. We never do, it's too traumatic for the puppy. And you have to keep them bandaged up for ever.
Ask the vet about vaccinations as they can vary but usually it is 12 weeks, 12 weeks, 1 year, two years four years, seven years. The cost varies with the vaccine.
Puppies vary in price depending on the colour. Harlequins can cost over $5,000.
