Question Hi, I have a 3yr old great dane bitch from being a pup and after the death of my labrador I bought a 2 yr old male great dane to keep her company. I have had him for 3 days now and for the entire 3 days I have had to keep them seperate as he is continously trying to mount her even though she isnt in season. I have booked him into the vets to be castrated in 2 days but I'm concerned as to whether this will solve the problem and I thought they only acted that way when the bitch was in season. Now they are seperated he is constantly crying, any advice would be greatly appreciated
Answer It will probably not solve the problem, it's a dominance thing. It will save having to separate them and put up with the howling when the bitch is in season. I would let them get on with it and they will sort it out between them.
A book on animal behaviour from the library may prove useful.
