I have only four geat danes now, all fawn, although I have had brindles in the past. I have had them for 34 years and am an international judge of danes, I breed them occasionally and show them most weekends. I also organise seminars and lecture on Kennel Club regulations, how to judge dogs, canine anatomy, movement and stewarding at shows. I am on the committees of National Working & Pastoral Breeds, Midland & West of England Great Dane Club organising shows and I was chairman of Stratford Canine Society.

Experience
I have had up to 20 great danes at any one time, fawn, brindle and blue,in the past. I have had them for 34 years and am an international judge of danes, I have judged the championship show of the Great Dane Club of South Australia. I breed them occasionally and show them most weekends. I also organise seminars for novice judges and instruct them on Kennel Club regulations and construction and movement. A dane we bred and that I showed took the best dog award at Crufts.

Subject: My dane isn't eating

Question
I Have a 18 month old black great Dane and for the past week she has not been interested in eating her dry kibble. It is the same kibble she has always been given but as of late she only eats a few bites then leaves it. We feed Her on a Schedule once in the morning At 6:30am And then again at 5:00Pm for dinner and for the last week I have maybe filled the bowl twice. She doesn't act sick she is just as active as she has always been and when I'm Cooking or sitting down eating she right where she always is looking for me too drop some for her and she will eat any kind of dog treat or cookie you put in front of her no problem. Which of course are only give on a limited basis this is the first Dane I've owned and I was wondering as they get older do there taste change and should I start feeding her something else I under stand you are in the UK and are not familar with  the foods in the US but any suggestions you might have would help like I said before Her diet consist of Only Dry kibble Twice a Day

Answer
She is probably bored with the food.  Our diet sheet is at

www.bengrsftongreatdanes.me.uk

in 'Puppy Notes'.

We add a small amout of tinned meat to their food to make it a bit more interesting and we wet the dry food with gravy.  Never feed dry as it dehydrates the body and can cause kidney problems.
