Greece - Aganippe & Hippocrene
Expert: Denny - 10/30/2009
Question Hello Denny,
I'm guessing you've been through Boeotia and the Helikonoros.
There usually being a hint of reality beneath most myths, this leaves me wondering if the mythic springs of Aganippe and Hippocrene ever were identifiable--and so, more to the point, may remain identifiable today.
Do you know (one way or the other)?
Regards,
Dan
Answer Yiasou Dan, thanks for the question,
Caught me just as I was leaving ... but let me start you off
and then come back with further info AFTER I have had a little
time to check it out.
Anyhow ... HELICON is a Greek mountain group 30-kilometres long,
that runs thru the center of Greece, in Boetia. It rises to over
5700 feet (over a mile high). The fountains of Hippocrene and
Aganippe are on the slopes of Mt. Helicon.
I achually answered this question about 3-years ago .
I will check to see if I stil have that answer.
I do know it is difficult to achually find those fountains.
But we shall see if there is a phone number in that area that I can
call.
Will get back to you soon ...
