1.What is the best way to get from Athens to Kastoria? Is there any directly bus or train or I should go to Thessaloniki and then go to Kastoria How long time the trip takes and how much is the ticket?

2. Is there any directly bus from Kastoria to Kalambaka or excursions to Meteora in whinter? Is it possible to visit this place in winter? What is the weather there at the begining of december? Is there any time table and prices?

3.the final part of my trip. How to go back from Kalambaka to Ahens?

Thank you for your help.

Hello Maria and welcome to Greece in such a cold period…. I guess you Know better about cold weather!

From Athens to Kastoria there are daily buses at 07:45 and 20:30.  Also there is one at 15:00 only on Sunday. The departure bus station in Athens is KTEL KIFISOU.
The ticket cost 48,5€ and the duration is  about 6 hours.

Unfortunately there is no direct connection to Kalambaka from Kastoria. You can skip Thessaloniki and you can go to Larisa and from there take a bus to Trikala.
What I mean. The bus that make the route Kastoria – Athens stops in Larisa. The duration is 3 hours 30min and the ticket cost 18,2€. (Daily routes at 7:00 and 20:30. Also at 14:00 only on Fridays)

From Larisa you can take a bus to Trikala and Kalambaka.
Buses to Trikala
Mon –Fri:6:00, 6:45, 8:00, 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 17:00, 18:30, 19:30, 21:00
Sa-Sun:6:30, 8:00, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:00, 18:00, 19:30 21:00.
The duration is 1hour  and the ticket costs 6,30€
Buses from Trikala to Kalbaka : Every 20 min. Duration 20min, tickect price 2€

From Trikala to Athens there are the following Buses:
7.00, 9.00, 11.00, 13.00, 15.30, 18.30, 01.00 (except Sun),
extra Sun : 15.15 , 17.30 ,  Fri : 16.15.
The ticket costs 28€ and the duration is about 3hours 30min.

Let’s see what we have. You should take the 7:00 bus from Kastoria and you will be at 10:30 – 11:00 in Larisa. Then (I don’t think you will manage to catch the 10:30bus) you will take the 12:00 bus to Trikala and you will be at meteora around 14:00.
It is doable but is it worth it?
The December the day light is little and there might be clouds.
In my opinion it is better to arrange your schedule in order to stay one day in Kalambaka and then continue your trip to Athens.

Good luck
