Question
QUESTION: Need help please-
~I am traveling to Kefalonia on August 1st, hoping to get a guided tour of Ithaca. My two teenage girls just finished reading The Odyssey and are thrilled to be going to Greece! I want them to have a great experience visiting. Can you recommend a knowledgeable tour guide for this?

~From Kefalonia, I want to visit a cousin on Zakynthos for a couple of days.

~Then visit Olympia. Are there tour guides for hire there?

~I have to be in Paros on the 5th.

We are arriving first thing in the morning on Kefalonia. I was hoping to go over to Ithaca, have the Odyssey tour, then back to Kefalonia to catch the ferry from PESSADA to AGIOS NIKOLAOS. Stay in Zakynthos for a couple of days then take the ferry to Kyllini, rent a car or take the bus to Olympia, take a tour and get back to Kyllini. Is there a cruise or ferry from Kyllini to Paros?

Thank you kindly,
Constantina

ANSWER: Hello Constantina

About tour guides in Ithaka and kefalonia you can use this site in order to find what is best
for you: http://touristguides.gr/en/poxen-en/union-members/ionian

It is the union of the tour guides for the Ionian Islands. I have contacted with the president of the union Mrs Rari Magda, she told me that you can addressed an e-mail there, or you can use the personal e-mail : magda.rari@gmail.com

Also you can use this link to find out more about tour guides in Olympia. In my opinion tour guides in Olympia is not a problem since you can find them outside the archeological site.

Some ship lines for the trip Kefalonia to Zakinthos

Are you interesting in travelling from Kyllini (Ionian Sea) to Paros (Cyclades Aegean Sea)? Or did you mean Poros (kefalonia Island)?

From Kyllini to PAROS is better to travel to Athens first and then go to Paros from Piraeus port.
From Kyllini to POROS in Kefalonia, I think the above mentioned sites are ok.

Hope I helped
Welcome to Greece.

PS.... "not expecting Ithaca to make you rich.
Ithaca gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you would have not set out"

QUESTION: Thank you for your prompt reply.

What do you suggest? To stay overnight on Kefalonia near the port and take the first ferry to Kyllini to go to Olympia or leave Kefalonia and stay overnight in Kyllini near the port to then go to Olympia? Are there any organized tour packages from Kyllini to Olympia?

Thank you,
Constantina

Answer
I suggest to do what suits you better !

I will give you some data and then you can decide!

In order to go to Ancient Olympia from Killini  you have to travel first to Pyrgos and then take another bus to Olympia.

From Killini to Pirgos  there are the following busses :
07:20, 9:30, 12:00, 16:30, the duration is about an hour and the ticket cost 5.4

From Pirgos to Olympia there are frequent buses from 5:45 and every hour until 21:45 The ticket costs 2.2 and the duration is about 20min.

Route Pirgos - Olympia
Mon Fri : 05:45, 07:15, 08:30, 10:00, 11:00, 12:20, 12:30 express, 12:45 express, 13:20, 14:30, 16:00, 18:00, 19:30, 21:45.
Sat: 06:15, 08:30, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:30, 14:30, 16:00, 18:00,19:30 (15/6- 15/9), 21:45.
Sun: 07:15, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:00, 18:00, 19:30 (απο 15/6 εως 15/9), 21:45.

Killini does not have anything to do or see (in comparison with Kefallonia) If you can find a ferry that is convenient you can arrange a small excursion from Kefallonia. Unfortunately I am not aware of any tour packages from Kyllini to Olympia.

Hope I helped
